Looking at my mom's posts on Facebook

First night observing my mom's social media habits, and boy was it fun. My parents and I went to the new bakery in town, 85*C cafe, for some treats. My mom shouting "Wait, I want a picture!" before we proceed to eat our mango-covered pastry. My dad's reaction: "Can we eat it now?" after she proceeds to take 5 different angles of the same thing.

I don't think my mom understands the purpose of tagging on Facebook. She literally just tagged me in this post when, clearly, I'm nowhere in the photo. (Unless I'm the bottle of wine?!) Also, is she trying to taunt me with her tasty home cooking because I'm on a semester-long broke college student diet?! Uncalled for.
In case some of the words in the comments are unclear, she's replying to some of her friends in Tagalog, the native language of the Philippines. "Sana napaaga ka!" meaning, "Too bad you weren't here with us to enjoy this meal!"

Mom's Facebook response to the Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts going on at her law firm office. Notice the emotional depth of her status, her touching use of Tagalog (the Filipino language), and how (judging from her location) she most likely posted this from the comfort of her seat during the bus ride home. Thank goodness for mobile apps! My mom is so thoughtful and gracious.
On another note, according to my Dad, she's been spending more and more time on the site and less time actually talking at home. "She's just attached to her phone," was all he said when I asked about it. "Even while we were eating dinner." I know Mom knows what she's doing, but sometimes I worry about her.

Example of my mom's epic (and colorful) collage-making skills. "It takes a while," she comments, on how long it takes for her to edit these. Not counting the time it takes for her to like and respond to each comment and post.
Side note: I was able to tried the bread upon my coming home this past weekend. Happy to report, it was delicious.

Oh, God. My mother just posted her first selfie.
(At least she looks cute, ha.)

A typical Starbucks holiday red cup post. The city/L.A. skyscraper background adds a nice touch. Oh, not to mention the EXACT ADDRESS OF HER LOCATION. Mom still has many things to learn of the ways and rules of social media, but I can see she's been steadily improving! Dad says she talks more at home now, and he even took her out for dinner recently...she only touched her phone once! Progress is progress.

Last day of observing my mom's Facebook activity! She's been doing really well; not posting as much to her timeline (as in, not every other day like she would before) and interacting better with us, her family. Maybe it's the spirit of the holidays approaching, but could it be that my mother is actually starting to get over her addiction to Facebook?!
Nah, I didn't think so either.
